NM-112 is part of the family of “jaw / jaw-spider / flexible” couplings where two hubs connect shafts via a flexible rubber (or elastomer) “spider” between them. This helps absorb misalignment, shocks, and damp torsional vibrations. 

It’s used in a variety of industrial applications — electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, blowers, mixers, conveyors, and other power-transmission / rotating-shaft machinery.

Because of the flexible element, NM couplings (including NM-112) are more tolerant of shaft misalignment compared to rigid couplings — which helps to protect bearings and connected equipment.
